Our Mission
The mission of FLA, East Bay is to provide leadership training, educational commitment, and promote the personal development of selected talented youth for the purpose of fostering a greater awareness and participation in responsible leadership in a global and democratic society.
Our History
FLA, East Bay has served over 900 students since it began operation in the East Bay in 1991. Several of the program’s alumni have excelled academically, becoming lawyers, judges, engineers, business executives, and leaders within their communities. These alumni have credited the program as key to their development, drive, and success in becoming successful leaders both professionally and within their communities.

East Bay Area, Inc.
Future Leaders of America, East Bay Area, Inc. is an alumni and volunteer driven two-level leadership development program that advocates academic excellence, cultural pride, positive role-modeling and leadership to Latino youth. The goals of the program are for students to build self-esteem, to excel in secondary education as well as achieve a post-secondary education, become involved in extracurricular activities and emphasizing the importance of community involvement.
Level 1 - Youth Leadership Conference
Our program begins with a yearly six-day Youth Leadership Conference (YLC) for incoming 9th and 10th graders. The YLC is designed to motivate students to excel in secondary education, build self-esteem through cultural arts, and foster leadership skills through workshops. Workshop presentations include public speaking, assertiveness, brainstorming, A-G requirements for college, and goal setting for home school and the community. The YLC also begins to plant the seeds for leadership with such workshops as what makes a leader, parliamentary procedure, and a community leaders panel where leaders from the community discuss their life experiences and the challenges they have overcome. This gives the students an up-close look at role-models that resemble themselves. Our staff consist of alumni, college students and professionals who serve as mentors throughout the week as well as in the future.

EMPOWER TO LEAD… THE FLA WAY

Our follow up programs are held at local colleges and universities during the academic school year. These workshops reinforce the students' new skills, introduce them to the University of California, California State and community college systems. Workshops include requirements for admission, financial aid, Equal Opportunity Programs, student activities, a university panel of college age Future Leaders who discuss their major, as well as their experiences, and the challenges they have faced at the university or college level. Campus life and additional topics leading to a degree are also explored. The goal is for FLA graduate students to return as trained facilitators, conference leaders, and volunteers as a means of strengthening and continuing their involvement in the program. In addition, during these university and college seminars, FLA East Bay provides workshops for parents and guardians covering admissions, financial aid, college and university life. We also have a parent panel to discuss how to advocate at school, and how to involve themselves in helping their students reach their goals and become Future Leaders.
